Breast Reduction Improves Quality of Life

Seattle Breast Reduction (Reduction Mammaplasty)

While breast augmentation is the top plastic surgery procedure performed, breast reduction surgery (reduction mammaplasty) is also a very popular procedure that has provided relief to many women by alleviating the physical problems associated with overly large breasts. The surgery often relieves or reduces pain associated with the breast, neck, back and shoulders. A study evaluating the quality of life on breast reduction surgery patients before and/or after the procedure (Analysis of Satisfaction and Well-Being following Breast Reduction Using a Validated Survey Instrument: The BREAST-Q, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, August 2013) reveals high satisfaction among patients in a number of areas. Based on a 100 point scale patients indicate the following improvements:

  • breast appearance increased from 20 to more than 80 points
  • psychosocial increased from 41 to 84 points
  • sexual wellness increased from 40 to 78
  • physical well-being increased from 43 to 81

Seattle based plastic surgeon, Dr. Shahram Salemy comments that breast reduction will continue to be extremely popular among women because of the benefits of both looking and feeling better. While the procedure may be covered by insurance, patients should check with their insurance companies as coverage for the procedure varies.
