Combined Breast Lift and Arm Lift: The Ultimate Upper Body Makeover for Balanced, Youthful Contours

Are you looking to rejuvenate your upper body and achieve a more youthful, contoured appearance? If you’ve noticed sagging skin on your arms and breasts – whether due to weight loss, aging, or pregnancy – you’re not alone. Many people are turning to combined cosmetic surgery procedures to restore their confidence and feel great in their bodies. One of the most effective cosmetic surgery combinations to achieve a dramatic upper body transformation is a breast lift (mastopexy) with arm lift (brachioplasty). Treating both the arms and breasts together can achieve the aesthetic principle of symmetry, leading to more natural, balanced, and harmonious results that align with your aesthetic goals.

Combining plastic surgery procedures can also offer benefits such as cost savings, reduced recovery times, and fewer appointments, making it an appealing option for those considering multiple surgeries.

“This spring, more and more patients are choosing to combine procedures, so they have one surgery, one recovery. A popular combo we’re seeing right now is an arm lift with a breast lift. It’s a great way to tighten and lift the upper body in one go.”

Addressing Sagging Arms & Breasts with Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic procedures continue their broad popularity, with many individuals seeking to enhance their physical appearance and boost their self-confidence. One of the most common concerns for individuals, particularly those who have experienced significant weight loss or aging, is excess loose skin and sagging tissue on the arms and breasts, both of which can be addressed with an Arm Lift and a Breast Lift.

What is an Arm Lift?

An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess sagging skin and fat from the upper arms to improve their shape and contour. It’s ideal for individuals who have developed “bat wings” or hanging, loose skin, often after significant weight loss or as a result of aging, and when exercise alone can’t fix drooping skin. There are several techniques, but surgeons typically make incisions along the inside or back of the upper arm, tighten the underlying tissue, remove excess skin, and sometimes use liposuction to remove fat.

What is a Breast Lift?

breast lift, also known as mastopexy, elevates and reshapes sagging breasts through the removal of excess skin and tightening of surrounding tissue. For those women who have lost breast firmness and shape due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, or aging, this procedure can help restore a youthful fullness and silhouette. Surgeons use various incision patterns and techniques to achieve natural, beautiful results.

Why Combine Breast Lift and Arm Lift Surgeries?

Combining these two procedures offers a comprehensive upper body transformation. Instead of addressing one area at a time, you can achieve balanced, harmonious results that enhance your overall silhouette. Many patients find that treating both the arms and breasts simultaneously rather than undergoing multiple procedures separately creates a more youthful, proportionate look.

Combining breast lift and arm lift surgeries offers a range of powerful benefits:

  • Single Anesthesia and Surgical Session/Improved Convenience: Patients only need to schedule and prepare for surgery and anesthesia once, making the process more convenient and less disruptive to their lives.
  • Single Recovery Period: Patients can recover from both procedures at the same time, reducing the total downtime compared to having each surgery separately. This means less time off work and daily activities, and only one period of post-surgical discomfort to manage.
  • Cost Efficiency: Combining surgeries often results in lower overall costs, as patients pay for anesthesia, facility fees, and other associated expenses just once, rather than for two separate operations.
  • Enhanced, Comprehensive and Balanced Results: Addressing both the arms and breasts in one session helps create a more harmonious, balanced and symmetrical upper body appearance, and can lead to a more dramatic and satisfying transformation than treating each area individually.
  • Customized Treatment: Surgeons can tailor the combined procedures to the patient’s unique anatomy and more holistic goals, ensuring a personalized approach for optimal results.

What Kinds of Results Can I See from Combining Breast Lift & Arm Lift Procedures?

Patients who undergo a combined breast lift and arm lift can expect a comprehensive transformation of their upper body, addressing saggy arms and resulting in a more youthful, balanced, and proportionate appearance. Additionally, these procedures effectively improve saggy breasts, elevating and reshaping them for a more youthful look. Here are a few of the key physical results typically seen after these combined procedures:

Firmer, More Sculpted Arms

  • Removal of excess skin and fat from the upper arms leads to smoother, tighter, and more toned arm contours. The procedure also targets stubborn fat, helping to achieve a more sculpted appearance.
  • The arms appear firmer and more defined, with a significant reduction in “bat wing” or saggy skin.

Lifted, Youthful Breasts

  • The breasts are elevated to a higher, more youthful position on the chest. (Breast augmentation can also be an option for enhancing breast size and shape.)
  • Excess skin is removed, and the surrounding tissue is tightened, resulting in a firmer, rounder breast shape.
  • The overall breast contour is improved, with a reduction in sagging and a more aesthetically pleasing silhouette.

Balanced and Harmonious Upper Body

  • By addressing both the arms and breasts in one surgical session, patients achieve a more balanced and harmonious upper body profile, and enhanced overall proportion and symmetry.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Combined Breast Lift & Arm Lift?

You may be a great candidate for combined breast lift and arm lift surgery if you:

  • Are in good overall health, at a stable weight, and free from serious medical conditions.
  • Do not use nicotine, as nicotine can impair healing and increase surgical risks.
  • Have significant sagging or laxity in both the breasts and upper arms—often due to weight loss, aging, or genetics, especially if these concerns cannot be addressed through diet and exercise alone.
  • Possess realistic expectations about the results and a willingness to follow post-operative instructions for optimal recovery and results.
  • Are not pregnant, nursing, or morbidly obese are better suited for combined procedures.
  • Have not taken any GLP1’s in the 4 weeks prior to surgery and will not during the 2 weeks after.
  • Possess realistic expectations about the results and a willingness to follow post-operative instructions for optimal recovery and results.

Ultimately, consulting with an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon is essential to determine if this approach is right for you. He or she will perform a thorough preoperative assessment of your health, goals, and anatomy to create a personalized plan.

During The Procedures

The procedures are typically performed under general anesthesia and take several hours, depending on your needs. Brachioplasty surgery is typically 3-4+ hours and a breast lift is typically 2-3+ hours when performed in our Seattle surgical clinic.

During surgery, your surgeon will use advanced techniques to minimize scarring and maximize results. Safety is always the top priority, so it’s essential to choose a Board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in combined procedures and one who operates in a safety-accredited surgical operating room.

Recovery and Aftercare

Recovery from combined surgery is similar to recovering from each procedure individually, but you’ll heal from both at the same time, which can affect your recovery time. You’ll need to arrange for help at home, especially in the first few days, as both arm and chest movements will be restricted. Compression garments are typically required for both the arms and chest; The brachioplasty garment is 3/4 sleeve length and the breast lift garment is a special sports bra. Both garments are worn post-surgery for six weeks.

Initial swelling and bruising are common after surgery and can temporarily obscure the final results, but most patients notice visible improvements almost immediately. As the healing process continues over several months, these results become more refined, especially as scars begin to fade and the contours settle.

Most individuals are able to return to work within 1-2 weeks with physical restriction for six weeks, allowing for a gradual return to normal routines while enjoying the benefits of the procedure.

Your surgeon will provide detailed aftercare instructions, including tips for scar management and guidelines for resuming activities, and schedule follow up appointments to ensure your progress is on track.

Final Results

Final results after a combined breast lift and arm lift typically become visible between 3 to 6 months post-surgery. It is important to keep your incisions out of the sun for the first year as they continue to mature and fade.  After swelling and bruising subside within the first 6 to 12 weeks, patients can see significant improvements in contour and shape by this time. However, subtle changes and scar maturation continue for several more months, with the most refined and settled results usually apparent around the 6-month mark. Patience is important, as both the breasts and arms need time to fully heal and for tissues to settle into their final position.

The results of combined breast lift and arm lift surgeries are generally long-lasting, particularly when patients maintain a stable weight and healthy lifestyle. While some natural loss of firmness may occur with aging, the improvements in contour and position are considered near permanent, providing an opportunity for enduring confidence and satisfaction.

Planning Your Combined Surgery Timeline

Scheduling your combined procedures requires advance planning. Many experienced surgeons have booking schedules that extend several months ahead, and while waiting can feel difficult at times, it can serve your best interests.  This extended planning period allows you to properly arrange your recovery environment, adjust your work and personal commitments, and mentally prepare for the process ahead.  You’ll want to confirm you’re in optimal health and fully prepared to follow both pre-operative preparations and post-operative care instructions. Proper timing and thorough preparation can create the foundation for achieving your desired outcome.
