Breast Cancer & Reconstruction Patients Boost Self Image with Unrelated Cosmetic Surgery

Seattle Breast Reconstruction

Not only can breast reconstruction significantly restore a woman’s sense of confidence and boost her self-image, but unrelated plastic surgery procedures, like liposuction, facelift, and eyelid surgery, can also help improve self-esteem for Breast Cancer patients following a Breast Reconstruction, says a study presented at the 2013 annual scientific meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the largest organization in the world of board-certified plastic surgeons and the premier authority on cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery.

In a study of 1,214 breast reconstruction patients between 2005 and 2012, respondents most commonly cited the “desire to improve self-image” and overcome feelings of self-consciousness post-breast reconstruction.  The study’s co-author posited that despite breast reconstruction following a mastectomy, some patients choose plastic surgery as a means to “further restore themselves and feel whole after battling breast cancer.”

Award-winning, Seattle Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Shahram Salemy has performed many such Breast Reconstruction surgeries and additional plastic surgeries for breast cancer patients and finds it not surprising that breast reconstruction patients pursue additional unrelated cosmetic surgery after having very safe, good outcomes and positive experiences with the same Board Certified Surgeons who initially perform the Breast Reconstruction.  After surviving cancer, the impetus for patients to do something for themselves can be quite strong.

Breast Reconstruction is performed in Dr. Shahram Salemy’s Seattle office.  Call (206) 467-1101 or email our Seattle Plastic Surgery office for a personal consultation.
